Piezoceramic Transformers
A high-voltage piezoceramic transformer is structurally designed as a plate, cylinder, washer, ring, etc. Its operating principle is based on double energy conversion (electrical energy is converted into mechanical energy, and then mechanical energy is converted back into electrical energy). The most common design is a plate consisting of an input low-voltage section and an output high-voltage section.
Unlike conventional (wound) transformers, the use of piezoelectric transformers requires the generation of an alternating input voltage at frequencies of 40–80 kHz, which is converted into mechanical vibrations, followed by the conversion of mechanical vibrations into a high-voltage alternating output voltage at the same clock frequency.
FIELDS OF APPLICATION
- in high-voltage power supplies, night vision devices, thermal imaging devices, and laptop display backlighting;
- in low-power ozone generators and air ionizers;
- in medical therapeutic devices;
- ignition of neon lamps and cold-cathode lamps.
