Composite Materials

Piezoelectric composites with 1-3 connectivity are materials that typically represent a two-phase system of parallel polarized piezoceramic rods with square or circular cross-sections embedded in an organic (non-piezoceramic) matrix based on epoxy resin. Piezoelectric composites with 1-3 connectivity differ from monolithic (non-porous) ceramics by increased anisotropy of a number of piezoelectric characteristics d33/d31, g33/g31, kt/kp, k33/kp.

Changing the concentration of piezoceramic rods in the presented materials makes it possible, within fairly wide limits, to regulate their electrophysical parameters (dielectric permittivity, piezoelectric coefficients d31 and d15, electromechanical coupling coefficients kp and k31, acoustic impedance Za).

Piezoelectric elements based on composite piezoceramic materials are generally used in piezoelectric transducers for ultrasonic flaw detectors and thickness gauges, in acoustic cavernometers, in instruments for ultrasonic medical diagnostic equipment, in ultrasonic level gauges and flow meters, and in volume-sensitive hydrophones.
